Your input needed for School System Consolidation Study!
Should Asheville City Schools and Buncombe County Schools merge?? That's the question the state legislature has asked the County to study, and your opinion is needed! Below are the dates for nine drop-in community meetings, as well as one online forum to gather community input that will be presented to the North Carolina General Assembly in February 2025:

New! Real Time Bus Info!
New for the 2024-25 school year, the Buncombe County Transportation Department has a really cool tool for parents to use to receive specific information about their child’s school bus ride. Using the "Edulog Parent Portal App" parents will be able to:
- Access designated bus stop times and locations for their child.
- Monitor real-time information about the location of their child’s school bus.
- Receive notifications when the bus is getting close to the assigned bus stop.
Buncombe County School's Transportation Department provides daily bus service to over 13,000 students traveling 15,800 miles daily. Its current fleet consist of 262 yellow buses and an additional 45 white activity buses.

School Board Meets with County Commissioners
Buncombe County School Board, Asheville City School Board and Buncombe County Commissioners met on August 22 as part of the Commissioners' efforts to refine their Strategic Plan 2030 goals and strategic priorities. This was the first time all three boards have come together around a long-term goals conversation. No action or formal votes came from the meeting, but it was an excellent opportunity for local elected officials to learn and listen.
Asheville City Schools Superintendent Dr. Maggie Fehrman and Buncombe County Schools Superintendent Dr. Rob Jackson started the morning sharing presentations outlining how the school systems are meeting Commissioners’ strategic priorities and their goals and concerns moving forward.
Buncombe County’s Strategic Policy and Analysis Manager Heather Parkinson led the group through a series of exercises to help define shared purpose, goals, and future strategic priorities. Conversation centered around student success, state funding, retaining and recruiting teachers, and universal pre-kindergarten. Both school boards expressed gratitude to the Board of Commissioners for creating the space to have a conversation around the importance of a successful local school system.

Big Changes to How You Vote for School Board!
In June 2023, the state legislature revised the law governing elections in BCS. Instead of six residency districts based on the six high school attendance zones and one at-large member, the law directed BCS to create six electoral districts along with the one at-large seat.
These 6 electoral districts DO NOT mirror the six sub-districts we're used to in Buncombe County, so it will be important in the upcoming election for you to check and see which ELECTORAL district you are in. Amy Churchill represents District 4, shown in purple on the map above. It includes the Roberson District and portions of Enka and Reynolds.
